Genji pie has been loved for a long time since its release. It was born in 1965, when the person in charge of development at the time came across a heart-shaped pie pastry called "Palmier" while visiting Europe, the home of pies. In Japan at the time, sweets were only available at high-end confectionery stores. The person in charge of development thought, "I wonder if we can somehow make this candy available to many people at a reasonable price," and immediately started development after returning to Japan.
